January News

Happy New Year,

Just a quick note that PFEC is off the mark in 2007. On 070103,20:30, I completed new circuits for Henri Larnoe (#862), which should be in his mailbox by now. Over the Christmas weekend several members communicated their new addresses. We are now well over 100 active senders of circuits and we have around 50 email members.
Thanks to those who answered my Christmas and New Year wishes via email or snail mail.

Using the LIST facility on the PFEC weblog
A long time ago, I announced that you can add a list with whatever stamps you require. Now, Jospeph Farrugia (#685) has taken me up on this offer, with his wish to exchange good stamps from his list for Malta stamps. If you are interested, send an email to Pierre. If you do not have the address use the email link on the PFEC site. I shall then communicate the data that you supply to Mr. Farrugia.

A few rules:
  • Stamp related items only
  • Maximum items on the list is 10
  • The list stays for a maximum of one month on the weblog
  • After one month, the list will be moved to the PFEC site, where it will stay until I run out of space there
Philatelic terms
Recently, it was explained to me what is meant by BULL’S EYE stamps. There were one or two other terms that confused me in the past. maybe you were confused, too.
Bull’s Eye
We know this term in PFEC as "Round Cancels". Several members have this term in their preference.
CTO
Cancelled To Order. Stamps that leave the factory with the date stamp printed on and hence never postally used. Some members also consider mint stamps the have been cancelled in the Post Ofice also to be CTO’s. Sending CTO’s without prior permission of your exchange friend is agains Rule 5 of our circuit. Some members do collect CTO’s. These members put this explicitly on their circuits in the PREFER section.
Semipostals
Stamps that carry an extra charge for charity. Examples of Dutch semipostals are "ZOMERZEGELS", "KINDERZEGELS" and since 2004 "GOEDE DOELEN ZEGELS". The semipostals are often less frequently used and are among the better valued stamps on the market.

Personals
On  January 14th, one of our most enthousiastic members, Mr. C.C. Nottelman passed away. Mr. Nottelman was 96 and stillvery enthousiatic and active. He once wrote to me that one of his joys in life was receiving philatelic mail. He was one of the first to get in touch with PFEC headquarters about the restart of PFEC and sent several lots of circuits in the short span between the restart of PFEC and January 2007.
We will miss him.
If you wish to send your personal condolences, email to Pierre and you will receive the details of the correspondence address.

New member
We welcome Oldrich Stefek of Revnicov, Czech Republic, as member 2001.
Our friend Rudolf Vetrovec receives 6 complimentary circuits for recommending.

Question of the month

Over the last few months I have been sending checklists with the  summary of the circuits that you received. From snail mail members I have had some reactions on its use: Some find it helpful, some have their own administration. What do you think:
  1. Helpful, keep sending them
  2. No thanks, I have my own system and do not use it
  3. What checklist?

Best regards,

Pierre
